Although I have had my fair share of hassles at Target in the past, I have also had many a new-to-me cashier & manager handle a transaction or problem in a courteous, respectful, friendly, helpful manner. I don’t mind when a new cashier takes a little extra time to look over my coupons either- #1 to the best of my knowledge I use my coupons correctly, but #2 as long as they are friendly and polite and don’t look at me like they would rather stick needles in their eyes when they see my coupons- they are just doing their job.

I truly appreciate those employees who take the time to try and understand coupons and how they can be used as opposed to those who loathe them and make you well aware that they are hating every moment you are in line. To show my gratitude, I frequently fill out Guest Comment Cards. If you are unfamiliar with them- they can be found at Guest Services and they are also kept up at the registers in many stores. If you are happy with the service you get, think about taking a moment to fill out one of these cards to show your appreciation. You can either hand it in at the store- or drop it in the mail.

Great idea! I was not even aware of these, but I will now be sure to do this. Very thankful for those cashiers that don’t treat you poorly when using coupons and because in my experience they are few, they really should be commended for their good customer service.

I have done that before a couple times when it comes to target – i work retail myself, and i know if i do a especially good job, that i want to be recognoized – even though it is still my job and my way of enjoying my job…. i had a target (which is 30 minutes from my house – i have 2 closer ones and i hate going to them ) when the schick coupon came out last month – the associate helped me, and then checked to see if they had the razors in back… (scanned the barcode on the tag) and then went to get them… he got stopped like 2aisles over…and then came back to me, and appologized and went to retreive them again… he offered me 10% off my razors (i had like 3 of them…) i truely appreciated the offer – but declined, cuz i knew i was going to get them crazy cheap anyways… so i went to his manager on duty -told them… called corporate and bragged about the associate – and even sent in the comment card (i am always leary on will the cards actually reach corporate?) then i went back another time, had problems with the scrubbing bubbles coupons… the registers wouldnt take them… got sc johnson to send me a manuf coupon from them for the toilet gel/fresh brush… and finaly (after a 3rd try) got the manager …who knows i shop there all the time…just refund me the total that the coupon would have been… and i told them, id rather go there because at least they dont accuse you of doing wrong by using a coupon … Thank you for posting about the comment cards – many people dont take advantage of them – no matter what store they are in…and when they do surveys from the store, they dont actually espress how they feel about their service… if you have really excellent service anywhere, let the higherups know… all retail associates do appreciate it :D

I just wanted to post on this particular comment — I am a Target employee, I am a department manager. I LOVE reading your posts, and really appreciate that you always comment that clearance prices are not always the same in all stores, but this post really made my day. With the exception of a monetary raise, a guest compliment to management is the very next best thing in my opinion! I work in clothing, which includes the baby department and lots of registries. Nothing makes my day more than after helping someone get items off a registry or getting a crib set for expecting parents than to have them really thank me for helping them out. Makes all the mean ones worth it!

I love this idea! Why didn’t I think of it? I always thank people who are doing a great job, but this is better for sure. Then their superiors are aware of what a great job they are doing I will start doing this for sure. Thanks!

I actually did this several weeks ago. I first went to Walgreens where I had a negative experience with an employee there. Then I headed to Target and after checking out there I realized that one of the coupons I had handed the cashier hadn’t gone through, so I went back to him and he was incredibly helpful! After he was finished helping me I walked over to the customer service desk and filled out a comment card for him. I hope he knows how thankful I was for his help! :)

I recently visited the target website and left a comment on my store experience. Yes, I felt like the cashier was being contrary over every coupon I had. I thought she was going to come up with an excuse for every coupon and why I couldn’t use them! I did not know they had comment cards at guest services! That is good to know!! I have had some very positive experiences at Target too! I will be looking for those cards!

I do this all the time! its important when you recognize that you had a great shopping experience.

I do this at every store. Mostly because I am a teacher, I guess. Positive rewards for good behavior and all. Especially, when you can not give “prizes” all the time.

My most recent brag was at Walgreens when a cashier in cosmetics helped me thru 4 transactions when I had no clue about how to use the register rewards. There is a system you have to use so that they would print more register rewards, and she taught me about “fillers”.

She was actually having fun playing the register rewards “game” and did not get impatient with me at all. :) Yeah!

Now, I just hope someone reads my comments and gives her a pat on the back!

I used to work the registers at a retail/grocery store and it is much appreciated to hear the positive feedback! I always take the time to fill out a comment card or talk to a manager when someones doing a good job.

I love your site and appreicate that you go the extra mile to help all of us save tons of money. I am kinda new to couponing, about 4 months into my savings. What I have found is that the older ladies or the ladies that have worked at the store’s the longest will not give you a hassle about your coupons.

About 3 weeks ago I was at our local Wal-Mart and the cashier informed me that they no longer take internet coupons because of all the fraud. I was hot because I had atleast $50.00 worth of coupons and it was not going to make me rich on this trip. So they got the manager and blah blah blah, they finally accepted them but told me that was the last time they could do so.

I got online and found the Wal-Mart corporate coupon policy and it is now in my purse. Just this past week I was getting the $2/1 pampers deal and a few other things and the cashier says, “You can not use the internet one’s or I’ll have to check at the podium”. I handed her the policy out of my purse and told her that, yes you do have to accept them because it states right here what your company will accept. She did not ask me anymore questions and scanned them.

My bill before coupons was $56.08 and I ending up owing $13.23. It felt good to legally be able to walk out of a store with so much stuff and not have to pay a arm and a leg.

Thanks to you for all the hard work you do for us, and for sharing your stories too.

I didn’t even know there were comment cards available or I would have filled one out yesterday for the lovely cashier that I always go to who is excited to see coupons. All the other employees I seem to have issues with, except her. Is it weird to ask for her work schedule? LOL

  12. Excellent post. You are right. We all need to do this for each other. Target employees included! Someone bought my coffee the other day while I was in desparate need of a cup, going through drive-thru with my kids in tow. Nice and helpful is always a blessing to someone.

  13. Sara says:

I’m with most, I didn’t know that they existed! Thank you for the post. I go out of my way when I can to provide positive feedback. I’ll do this next time!

Another GREAT way to recognize great guest service at Target is by taking the guest survey that is printed at the bottom of your receipt. It just takes about 4 minutes to complete and can be done at the kiosks or on your home computer. There is a place for you to write your comments there and every manager is able to view the comments you make.

  15. Jennifer says:

What a great idea. It made me feel good to fill out a comment card today about a great cashier. Thank you for the reminder.

  16. Cora says:

HOORAY! I am a Target Team Member also and they do make a big deal (at least at my store) when we receive guest comment cards. Even if you don’t have time, look for the person in charge of the check out lanes (usually easy to spot) and just say something to them about which cashier was patient and/or awesome. (: They’ll make an announcement over the walkie and we’ll all give a “way to go” or congratulate them later. Every day is not awesome working there, but as a whole they do try to make it a fun place to work.
Thanks for this site as I can add a 10% off with my employee discount! (: Keep up the great work.

Great post! Just did this last week for a cashier who ALWAYS tolerates my coupons with a big smaile on her face. My kids refer to her as “that cashier you like mom..she is working”. They get excited when she s there too. Even when she has told me “no go” on a coupon we still are able to proceed in a courteous and friendly manner. Even last week when I had my target coupon policy with me….You need to give the positives…!
