I have posted before about the planned closings of the Garden Centers, but Ms. Sharpe just forwarded me an article that goes into a little more depth about their plans for post-Garden Center closings. I know many of you don’t have, or haven’t had Garden centers in your Target stores for a while now- but for those of us that do- the clock is ticking louder and louder.
Ms. Sharpe is out of Virginia, I am in S. Central Florida and both she and I have noticed the start of some widespread clearance going on in ours. They are getting ready for closures, so those of you with Garden centers keep your eye out for some hopefully great clearance finds the closer we get to September (planned final closings).
You can take a look at the full article out of the Richmond Times Dispatch about Target’s plans for the additional freed-up space HERE. Many stores that don’t have Garden centers will get a revamp on some areas of the store as well… and we know what that means- more clearance.
Although I will miss poking about in my Garden Center when it’s gone- I have been getting great coupons from the Home Depot- and I would rather go there than Walmart any day. I know some of you enjoy shopping at WalMart- but mine is very coupon un-friendly and I just tend to stay away! If you are interested in signing up for Home Depot offers, you can click on the banner and fill out the form that pops up. There are several different newsletters you can subscribe to at the bottom. One of them is the Garden Center, which has yielded me some great coupons off plants, flowers and even Trees! And the Mover’s Club gets you a 10% off coupon on an entire single store visit purchase (up to $250).

You know although I love “my” Target store I have no idea if they have a garden center or not… better check it out in hopes to score some great savings
I live in Tampa, FL. They closed the garden center a year ago. They still have the garden & patio section in the store but everything was on 75% off last week. I scored a couple of of garden statues that were originally priced $24.99 and I paid about $6 for each.
I am in Ocala,Fl and the clerk said ours would be closing by October.
From the OC Register, So Cal.
All 262 Target garden centers, which are primarily in Florida, Arizona, Nevada and California including 15 in Orange County, will close late this September.
“This is no longer a profitable business for us and does not provide significant value to our guests,” according to a statement provided by Target spokeswoman Jenna Reck. ”Our garden centers do not represent a meaningful portion of our operations.”
Garden centers, which on average span 7,500 square feet, are only at about 15 percent of the chain’s stores.
After the garden center closure, the only significant category that will no longer be offered is live plants. Lawn and patio merchandise will continue to be sold in the seasonal section of the stores.
O.C. Target stores currently with garden centers are located in Orange, Westminster, Aliso Viejo, Santa Ana, Fullerton, Mission Viejo, Anaheim Hills, Foothill Ranch, Rancho Santa Margarita, Irvine, Costa Mesa, Seal Beach, Fullerton and Buena Park. (See list of O.C. store addresses with garden centers.)
Nearly 300 employees will be impacted by the closure. They will be offered positions within the store and/or at Target.
