Did you ever buy new makeup only to get it home, try it on and it didn’t look the way you expected?  Here is a fun freebie to play around with that might actually help you to make smarter makeup shade choices. It is a new “virtual makeover” machine that may hit some stores soon.  You can choose from popular makeup brands like CoverGirl and L’Oreal and see how product shades will look on you. I thought it was pretty neat. You can go HERE to read more or to upload a photo and try it out.

This morning, 6:30 sharp, Austin woke me up out of a deep sleep and told me he needed a magic marker and some paper. “Really?” I asked, barely managing to get one eye open. “What For?”. So he announces “I am going to spell Fiber!”. Now as I am struggling to wake up a bit more and make sure I heard him right, he said it again, so there was no mistaking it. Out of all the things to do on a Tuesday morning at 6:30 am, my child wants to spell the word Fiber.

Now, with all the deals that have been going on in recent weeks with Kellogg’s Fiber Plus, I figured that’s where he got it from. After granting him a magic marker and some scrap paper, I even laid a Fiber Plus coupon down on the floor to give him a hint. When he got done, he proudly handed me the paper and said- “you know Mom, Apple Jacks have Fiber in them! I saw it on TV!”. And all I can do is chuckle, because although I did not see the commercial for them, it cracks me up that that is the one thing that stuck out in his head! :)

Welcome to the Knorr Report- my little weekly report of my adventures at Target. ;) This week, I am not quite sure why, but something struck me quite funny. While headed up to to the back to School area to see if I could score any clearance finds, I brought my cart to a halt at an endcap in the pet department that was full of Halloween Costumes for Pets. While we all know the seasonal stuff starts early, I thought to myself well Gee whiz, it’s only August 29th, and I now know what will be in the Back to School Section! Well when I got there it was completely empty. I just thought this was so funny that Target felt it was quite important for Pets to be prepared earlier for Halloween than the kids. But as you all know it does not take much to entertain me. :)

THE TUNNEL IS STILL DARK…
So I know that so many of you are extremely frustrated at all the bizarre things the register is doing to your coupons. And I know some of you are downright angry and feel like you’ve had it with using your coupons at Target. I still found the problem on Sunday myself. I brought along a $2/2 Fragrance collection coupon, found 2 clearance 2 oz soy candles for $1.48 each and the coupon scanned it at $1.48. I got a huge apology from the cashier and a prompt correction.

But I realize this is not what happens for all of you and it is a chore to get your remaining .52 cents value on your coupon or you don’t have the time to sit and watch the register like a hawk to make sure all your coupons go through. I respect your decision to avoid the store while this is continuing to go on, but for those of us willing to deal with the couponing calamities until it’s solved, which I do believe it will be, I want to take a minute to help you zero in on the things that most often trigger the register to misread your coupons. I know there are several issues, but there are 3 main ones to watch for:

COUPONS OFF MULTIPLES NOT BEING APPLIED CORRECTLY
If you have a coupon that is $1/2 or $2/3 or what have you, the register does not recognize that the coupon value is off more than one product. This will likely only affect you if the price of a single item is less than the total value of the coupon.

Example of when it will not affect you- Buy 2 Tropicana Orange Juice for $2.99 each, use a $1/2 coupon, and it will take off the full dollar.

Example of when it will affect you: Buy 3 Trident Gum 3-packs ($1.79 each), use a $2/3 coupon and it will likely only take off $1.79. You will have to watch for it, it should be immediately corrected upon request. If it is not, go to GS and ask for a manager. If they still refuse to correct it, call corporate from the store.

P&G COUPONS NOT BEING APPLIED TO THE CORRECT ITEMS
I am not sure why this is happening, but maybe it is something in the coding in this particular company’s coupons that causes the register to mis-apply them. May all be part of the same big problem, but it is another thing to watch for. What happens is the P&G coupons seem to attach to the first available P&G item it finds in the register, not a specific one. For example back in July people bought 1 Pamper’s Wipes at $2.29, and 1 Total Effects Body Wash for $5.79 in the same transaction. When they used the $4/1 Total Effects, it automatically took off $2.29 after mistakenly applying it to the Wipes and automatically adjusting it down. Now the $2/1 Pampers wipes scanned and only gave you $2 more in coupon value, so after a total of $6 in coupon value was used, you would only be credited $4.29 in coupon value.

How you can avoid it: If you are buying 2 P&G items and one item is worth less than the value of the coupon, hand your coupons directly after the item scans. For example, buy Tide Stain Release and then hand your $3/1 Tide Stain Release, then buy Pampers and hand over your $1/1 Pampers coupon. Otherwise, that $3/1 Tide Stain Release may be applied to your wipes and automatically adjusted down.

USING COUPONS ON A GIFT CARD DEAL
There have been mixed reports of Target saying they don’t accept coupons on Gift Card deals. In my opinion, this started happening in June, when all of a sudden the register began mysteriously applying an unseen $10 worth of manufacturer’s coupons to items prompting a Gift Card. I don’t know what the final outcome of this whole thing will be, but as of right now, to the best of my knowledge, there is no written policy stating you cannot use a coupon on a Gift Card deal. I believe this not accepting coupons on a Gift Card deal was given as an excuse when the coupons failed to work. When I started hearing reports yesterday of the B1G1 Stayfree not scanning, I quickly realized it was this mysterious $10 being applied causing it. You do not have to cover overage of $10, but you will have to cover the overage for your coupon value.

Example of when this will affect you: Buy ONLY 2 Stayfree ($5.29) = $10.58 (-$10 in invisible manufacturer coupons) = .58 cents. If you had a $1/1 it will adjust down to .58 cents, but if you try to use a B1G1, it will not work since the register sees you as only having .58 cents worth of merchandise to use a coupon on.

Example of when this should not affect you: Buy 2 Stayfree ($5.29) and a gallon of milk ($3.09) = $13.67 (-$10 in invisible manufacturer coupons) = $3.67. If you have two $1/1 coupons they both should scan in just fine, but if you try to use a B1G1, it will still not work since the coupon value is $4.49 and the register sees you as only having $3.67 worth of merchandise to use a coupon on. This is what I mean about having enough merchandise to cover the total coupon value you want to use.

Believe me I know this just stinks, and like I said, I respect anyone who is fed up and chooses that they are better off not to deal with it, but to me it is a very unfortunate, temporary wrinkle at a store I love, and I am willing to hang in there as long as it gets ironed out.
