I just wanted to take a moment to thank all of you so much for your e-mails and comments on my post and facebook offering words of comfort regarding the loss of my dog Princess. As I read them, of course I was in tears for myself and all of you who have gone and are going through a similar situation, but I felt blessed to have had so many people reach out. It was a reminder that I am not alone, a reminder that even though she’s gone, I was blessed to have Princess in my life. That although the sadness can be overwhelming, I wouldn’t trade the happiness, laughter and love she gave to my family over the years for anything. 

So thank you all, for sharing your stories, for reaching out to  comfort me, for allowing me my day to grieve, and for making me feel less sad and alone during such a tough time. Today has been a pretty awful day. My dog Princess, who was diagnosed with cancer, left me today. We have been able to enjoy her far longer than the vet said we would, and she has lived comfortably and free of pain thanks to daily medication. But this morning she did not get up, and I knew it was time. I’ve spent most of my morning with her, and now she’s gone. Even though we knew this day was coming, it didn’t make it any easier, and my heart is broken. She was the sweetest dog, very loving and playful with all of us, including my little boy Austin.

She was a Keeshond, the runt of a litter that no one wanted except for me. I thought she was beautiful, and took her home. She loved the beach, enjoyed chasing lizards, and slept next to my bed every night. She admired Austin from afar when he was a baby, but slowly warmed up to him after a while, especially in the last few years. She always saw him off to school, and would wait by the door in the afternoons for him to come home. She has been part of our family for 15 years, and she will be greatly missed.

It is why I have not been around much, since as you can imagine, it is hard to concentrate. Especially because despite my own sadness, the hardest part will be telling Austin. Which I have not done yet. He is at his Grandmother’s for the weekend, and I am thankful he wasn’t here for this. But the task of telling him when he comes home is heavy on my mind. It will break my heart into further pieces still, since I know he is going to be so sad and miss her terribly, and will likely not completely understand no matter what I say.

Although I would love to be on top of my game for you all today, I just don’t have the emotional strength right now. I think I will just work on the new ad quietly behind the scenes and see what I can accomplish for matchups. I know I have compassionate readers who will all understand my absence, I know you probably all feel that I don’t need to even explain. But maybe it helps me, even if it’s just a little bit, to have told you all about my sweet & wonderful Princess, and just how much I will miss her…
