So, I know some of you have noticed that some of your coupons have been showing up looking a little different as they don’t have the usual 12 digit UPC code.  This is because manufacturers are transferring over to the longer barcode, also known as a DataBar bar code.  The longer code contains much more information than the standard UPC bar code.

This helps to ensure the proper product has been purchased and includes the expiration date.  This should mean less cashier scrutiny, faster check outs, and hopefully less beepage!  Retailers will have to update their POS systems to read the new barcodes, and the good news is it seems Target registers are already supporting the databar system.

The only drawback that comes to my mind would possibly be on printables. While the shorter bar codes were easily scannable on a draft setting on my printer (for me anyway), I am not sure if this lower print setting will suffice anymore since it seems to be a more complicated bar code.

-Thanks so much for the report on the new databar system to to Mitchell of Frugal Finders!

If your store has gotten around to putting out the majority of their Back to School items, take a look around for these bins which have rolls of Scotch Magic Tape for $1. You can use the $1/1 Scotch Magic Tape x9/30 to pick these up for FREE. If your store doesn’t have them out yet, and you have a strong urge to own some scotch tape right away ;) remember, you can always stack it with the .50/1 Scotch Magic Tape Item Target Web Coupon x7/19 and pick them up in the regular aisle for around .29 cents each after stack. -Thanks for the picture & deal Jen of Confessions of a Couponer!

For those of you who remember the Target Store Coupons found in the Target notebooks last year, you know I am chomping at the bit to see if they show up this year! These coupons are for Scotch Scissors, Pop Up tape, Mead Binders, Five Star Notebooks and more. And if anyone spots the Target Notebooks with store coupons inside this year please let me know! -Thanks so much Stacey for the pic & the heads up!
