Summer is just around the corner- and there are several organizations and companies offering special incentives to help encourage children to keep reading over the summer. Here’s a roundup of several & if you know of any others please feel free to let me know & I will add them to the list!
Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge – Be A Reading Superhero: Now thru September 8th, kids can sign up and log their reading minutes to win cool rewards with this FREE online program from Scholastic. Parents can get reading tips, booklists and track their kids reading either online or on their phone. Get started today, you can go HERE to signup!
Barnes & Noble: Kids can earn a FREE BOOK when they read any 8 books. You can record your books in a Reading Journal that can be downloaded HERE, available in both English and Spanish. Then, when its complete, bring it in to your local B&N store and kids can choose a FREE BOOK from their list. This program is designed for kids in grades one thru six and runs now thru September 5th.
JUNIE B. SUMMER READING CLUB: Check out the Got to B…Junie B.! Kids’ Reading Club! You can join on their website HERE and download a complete Reading Log and Activity Brochure. Plus, parents can sign up for the Junie B. Jones Parent Newsletter and keep updated with news of special events, sweepstakes, fun games and activities for kids, and more.
Local Libraries: Don’t forget to check out your local library’s Summer Reading Program. The theme for this Summer, for most locations is: On Your Mark, Get Set… Read! Many will have free activities and prizes for goals reached. Call your local library for details. You can also go HERE for a directory of national library systems. Click on your state and then find your city.
TD Bank: Starting June 1st, kids in grades K-5 can earn a $10 deposit for a new or existing Young Saver Account by reading 10 books this summer. Just go HERE to print out the Summer Reading Form to record your books and when completed, take it to your nearest TD Bank. Limit one $10 offer per reader.
Chuck E Cheese: Check out their Rewards Reading Calendar, available year-round! You can download it HERE for FREE. Record your reading for 2 weeks and you’ll earn 10 FREE tokens when you bring in your calendar to a participating Chuck E. Cheese location! Note: Child(ren) must be present to redeem their tokens. No more than 1 of any free token offer can be used per child, per day. Food purchase is required (beverage does not count as food purchase). Go HERE for more details.
Sylvan Book Adventure: Kids in grades K-8 can read a book from the Book Adventure list, take quizzes on what they’ve read, and earn prizes. To get started, go HERE to register. Kids need to score at least a 90% on the quizzes to earn points but quizzes can be taken more than once. You can check out the Prize Library HERE.
Pizza Hut Summer Reading Challenge: Check out Pizza Hut for great ideas to help keep your kids reading this summer! Pizza Hut and Candlewick Press have teamed together to bring you story-themed kits you can download for FREE, including activity kits, including the Secret Tree Fort, Also an Octopus, How to Track a Truck, Where’s Waldo? Coloring Page, and more. If you don’t own the book, you can always make an outing to the library to borrow it :-), ISBN numbers are provided by Candlewick Press. Just go HERE to check it out!
